BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The Kern County Sheriff's Office turned just two criminals over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement in 2024. Even that level of cooperation came under scrutiny in Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting.

A tense board of supervisors meeting navigated the annual TRUTH Act forum, where a senior sheriff's administrator reviewed statistics and advocates condemned ICE.

Short for the California Transparent Review of Unjust Transfers and Holds Act, the TRUTH Act requires Kern County to hold a community forum if local law enforcement has given Immigration and Customs Enforcement access to an individual in custody.

"We are not involved in the enforcement of immigration law, deportations, or immigration sweeps," said Deputy Swanson.
