Many things run through your mind when an old high school track teammate messages to ask if you and two other former sprinters want to meet up and run a 4x100 relay — just for the hell of it — at the old stomping grounds after nearly 30 years away from a sport that, as much as anything, helped define who we were during a defining period.

“Uh … no” is the immediate thought, as you suddenly feel a tweak in your creaky back while sitting on the couch and reading the message.
