When a volcano is about to erupt, most people are fearful. But with the growing number of in-person and online viewers of one of the world’s most active volcanoes, several people are, instead, excited. The U.S. Geological Survey recently announced that Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano, located in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, is likely to erupt between August 20th and 23rd . Its data shows that this will be the 31st time since December .

On December 23rd, 2024, an eruption kick-started a series of intermittent eruptions, with the most recent being on August 6th.

There is currently a watch alert and an orange-level aviation alert in effect there. The USGS' website explains that this means the volcano is either "exhibiting heightened or escalating unrest with an increased potential of erupti
