LUKFIN, Texas (KTRE) - Lufkin City Council approved an e-cigarette and vape retail shop ordinance amendment.

The new ordinance will require shops opening within the city to have a special use permit. Shops will be limited to light and heavy manufacturing zones. Stores that plan to make less than 50% of their revenue from vape related products will not be impacted by this new law.

Current shops can remain where they are. If a shop was to stop operating for more than six months, a special use permit will be required to start.

The change was made due to an increase in shops selling vape products and students in schools have access to those products.
