A man in his 50s has died after being hit by a car in the layby of a major UK motorway.

Emergency responders were called to reports of a collision between two cars between Junctions 8 and 7 of the M23 just before 6.30am on Sunday morning.

The victim was said to have been outside his car at the time of the fatal crash.

Despite the best efforts of emergency responders, the man in his 50s couldn't be saved and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

According to Surrey Police, the suspect was driving an Audi and the victim was standing outside his VW when the alleged collision happened.
