BRISTOL, Tenn. — The Bristol Tennessee Board of Education on Monday postponed a decision on whether to accept ownership of the Melrose property from the city, citing a need for more information to move forward.
Last week, City Council voted to designate the property as surplus and offered it to the school system at no cost, but with a deadline. If the school board does not accept the transfer by Aug. 29, the property would be put up for sale, according to the City Council resolution.
Vice Chairman Jim Butcher moved to delay the vote, saying the board does not yet have enough information. Chairman Eric Cuddy and board member Debbie Darnell supported the motion to delay, while members Charlie Taylor and Jennifer Henson opposed it.
