WASHINGTON — A new juvenile curfew zone will take effect Thursday night, banning minors from gathering in large groups after 8 p.m. along the U Street corridor in Northwest D.C.
Police Chief Pamela Smith announced the zone Wednesday. From Thursday through Sunday, no more than eight minors can be in a group together from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the area. Then, from 11 p.m. through 6 a.m., the citywide youth curfew kicks in.
There are certain permitted activities for large groups of minors, including:
Being out with a parent or guardian
Completing an errand at the direction of a parent or guardian, without detour or stop
Riding in a car involved in interstate travel
Working or returning home from a job, without detour or stop
Becoming involved in an emergency
Standing on a sidewalk th
