SOUTHINGTON, Conn. — A Southington family is reeling after a late-night fire destroyed much of their home and left decades of memories in ashes.
The blaze broke out shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday and is believed to have started in the family's shed before spreading to their home.
Irene and Steve Uryga, along with their son Tom, have lived in the house on Town Line Road since building it in the mid-1970s.
"It's a terrible, terrible feeling to lose everything you built and you work for just to go up like this," Irene Uryga said.
The fire severely burned a large portion of the home. What wasn’t destroyed by flames was left soaked by water from firefighting efforts. Their shed was reduced to a pile of rubble.
Despite the damage, the Urygas are determined to rebuild.
