LIVINGSTON — It’s the 50th anniversary of the publication of Edward Abbey’s classic novel, “The Monkey Wrench Gang,” which is widely credited with introducing the term—as well as the action of— “monkeywrenching” to the environmental movement, especially to the more radical elements of that movement.
The anniversary is noteworthy around Livingston as the novel’s main character, George Washington Hayduke, is loosely based on local resident Doug Peacock.
And to mark the occasion, Elk River Books in Livingston, co-owned by Peacock’s wife, Andrea Peacock, will host an event, “Celebrating Resistance: An Evening with Doug Peacock and Cutthroat Journal,” on Thursday, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m. Elk River Books is located at 122 S. 2nd St. The event is free and will be followed by a reception and book sig
