Democratic Texas state Rep. Nicole Collier, who was locked in the House chamber after refusing a police escort, faced a felony threat for taking a call about redistricting in the facility's bathroom.

The incident occurred on Wednesday during a Democratic National Committee (DNC) call with Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).

"These maps will prevent Black and brown individuals from selecting the candidate of their choice because they're cracking and packing these districts," Collier explained before the call ended. "We're going to fight as much as we can, whether it's on the rules, or it's even on the policy, we will continue to push back on the Republicans' quest to dilute our voice."

Moments later, Collier announced that she had been threatened with a felony.

"Sorry, I have to leave. They said it's a felony for me to do this. Apparently, I can't be on the floor or in the bathroom," she said.

"Well, you told me I was only allowed to be here in the bathroom," the lawmaker complained to someone off camera before adding, "No, hang on. Bye, everybody. I've got to go."

Booker responded with outrage.

"Representative Collier in the bathroom has more dignity than Donald Trump in the Oval Office," he insisted. "What they're trying to do right there is silence an American leader, silence a Black woman. And that is outrageous. And I hope everybody took note of that. The fact that she can't even let her voice be heard is freaking outrageous."

"What we just witnessed them trying to shut her down and say it's illegal for her to be in the bathroom, and on this call, this is the lengths that they're going to in Texas to try to bring about a system so unjust," he added. "I hope that, I hope people felt what just happened like I did, because I've watched for too long in this country as women like her, as they come after people like her to try to silence her, to try to silence them. But no more. This is not going to happen."
