North Lanarkshire Council has refused to allow ownership of a community centre in Netherton to be transferred to a local group.
The council’s communities committee unanimously supported recommendations in a report which said Netherton Community Centre should not be transferred to Rivals Foundation.
Rivals, a registered charity, had applied for a community asset transfer which proposed taking over the community centre and car park to establish a centre for recreational activities and support programmes, and it offered to pay the council £20,000 for the building which has an estimated value of £220,000.
Planned activities to be offered from the venue included martial arts and self-defence classes, personal safety workshops, health and fitness classes, seminars, additional support needs se
