Carol Altieri , a longtime employee of CBS who worked in program practices, died August 9 in her Palm Desert, CA, home after a long illness. She was 76.

Born in Queens and raised on Long Island, Altieri attended Ithaca College and enrolled in secretarial school before joining CBS at age 20 to work as an executive assistant in the network’s NYC corporate offices. She joined the program practices department in 1974, holding the titles of editor and senior editor.

After moving to Los Angeles in 1984 as a director, Altieri eventually was promoted to VP Program Practices in 1984, and to senior VP in 2003. She retired in 2005.

Altieri was known for protecting creative rights while upholding broadcast standards. She authored the CBS Program Standards manual, a seminal document still guiding
