THUNDER BAY — The City of Thunder Bay and the Friends of Chippewa Park have announced a $2.09-million contract has been awarded to M Builds (NWO) Construction LP to build a structure to house the park’s historic carousel.

“Covering the carousel will give us the flexibility to expand its operating season into the shoulder and winter-time periods,” said Cory Halvorsen, manager of parks and open spaces with the City of Thunder Bay.

He added that the new building will also allow more programming opportunities at the park.

The project marks the final stage in a five-year restoration effort led by volunteers, tradespeople, and artists.
