CINCINNATI (WXIX) - It was a smooth return to class for thousands of Cincinnati Public Schools students Wednesday, Chief Operating Officer Chris Burkhardt said.

For many students, they were in an entirely new school after the CPS Board of Education passed a redistricting plan to create five new middle schools.

“The growth plan looked at what are the sizes of our buildings and who are the students who are there, and making that a correlation, as well as looking at our neighborhood schools,” Burkhardt explained.

Burkhardt and Cincinnati Public Schools Superintendent Shauna Murphy visited many of the new middle schools Wednesday to make sure things were running smoothly.

“We saw a lot of joy, happiness; students were excited about going to a new school,” Burkhardt described.
