Middletown officials announced Wednesday, Aug. 20, that Second and Third beaches will be closed on Thursday, Aug. 21 and Friday, Aug. 22, due to the potential effects of Hurricane Erin .
“(Thursday and Friday) are not the days to be learning how to swim,” Fire Chief Robert McCall, who serves as Middletown’s emergency management director, said in a statement. “When the forecasts are for the surf and swells we’re already starting to see, this is the course that makes the most sense. We want to make sure everyone stays safe.”
Neither beach will be staffed on Thursday or Friday, the town said in a release. To limit access to the beaches, Sachuest Point Road will be closed Thursday and Friday between Purgatory Road and Hanging Rocks Road.
