AUGUSTA, Ga (WJBF)- An overnight shooting in Augusta took the life of a toddler and injured his mother.

NewsChannel 6 spoke to several neighbors and while most of them did not want to speak on camera, they all say they are heartbroken by the news of the toddler's death and are now afraid more shootings like this could happen.

"Things escalated and then they start shooting. And I heard pow, pow, pow, pow, pow, pow," said Lawrence Freeman, a neighbor of the victims.

The shooting happened just before 1:30 in the morning on Wednesday at an apartment in the Allen Homes neighborhood. A female victim was shot and so was a three year-old child. They were both taken to the Wellstar MCG emergency room where the child, identified as Bryson Murray, died about an hour later.
