FALMOUTH, Mass. —
Hurricane Erin is bringing dangerous surf and rip currents to Massachusetts, prompting beach closures on the Islands and along the South Coast.
Nantucket announced Tuesday that all South Shore beaches would be closed due to large surf and dangerous rip currents from approaching Hurricane Erin.
Westport also closed beaches to swimming in that community, including Horseneck Beach, where the parking lot will close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Recreational Facility Supervisor Jillian Boyle emphasized that ocean conditions could remain hazardous even after the storm moves out.
“We’re still going to see some of those rip currents that are created by this storm, and those divots in the ocean floor are going to stick around for a bit,” Boyle said.
