CALEDONIA, MI - Five years ago, Dutton Elementary staff brainstormed a list of five phrases they felt described their role in the community: family, loving, always supportive, fun, above and beyond expectations.

Now, those words are plastered across the main hallway of the new Dutton Elementary Building, located at 7700 Patterson Ave. SE.

The new location for Dutton Elementary School, previously at 3820 68th St. SE, was funded in part through a May 2020 bond, which dedicated a little under $2.8 million for site acquisition and permitting.

A supplemental 30-year, $61 million bond passed by voters in May 2023 allocated an additional $40 million to the project.

Construction began in December 2023, and after nearly two years of work the building is now ready - almost.
