Tim Sherwood believes Chelsea would be silly not to rival Liverpool for the signing of Marc Guehi after the long-term injury suffered by Levi Colwill.

Colwill was expected to be a key player again for Enzo Maresca’s side but will now miss the majority of the season with an ACL injury.

While Chelsea had already brought in Jarrel Hato from Ajax prior to Colwill’s injury, Maresca has openly admitted that he would now like to see the club dip back into the market for more defensive cover.

‘We are trying to find a solution internally, but the club know exactly what I think and we’ll see what happens,’ the Chelsea boss said last week.

‘I think we need a central defender. We are looking for an internal solution but as I said, the club know exactly what I think.
