BAR HARBOR -- A national survey confirms what many of us already know. If you're looking for adventure, Maine is the place to be.

According to a new survey by betternurse.org , which is a nursing career and education platform, more travelers are ditching passive vacations for getaways that challenge both the body and brain, saying these trips "don’t just give you sore calves - they give you stories."

The survey polled a little over 3 thousand people on the active destinations they most want to experience this year and 3 Maine destinations made the list.

Bar Harbor broke the top 20, coming in at 19th, with Acadia National Park being a major draw. Greenville came in 26th, thanks to sites like Moosehead Lake and Mount Kineo. Camden came in 73rd.
