BELL COUNTY, Ky. — It's a case that has gripped an Eastern Kentucky community since July 2023. 17-month-old Elena Hembree died from non-accidental blunt force trauma according to medical records.

Elena's mother, Erica Lawson, pled guilty this past spring to murder and other charges related to her death. Harvey Gollahan has also been charged with murder in Elena's death. Commonwealth Attorney Mike Taylor said the state believes these are the only two people involved.

"There's been statements that have been made that there are many more individuals to be charged. There just simply isn't any evidence to substantiate that," said Taylor.

Taylor said with lots of misinformation surrounding the case, "It makes it just about impossible to do your job."
