According to the National Hurricane Center, outer bands of "large" Hurricane Erin are brushing the North Carolina Outer Banks, adding that beachgoers are cautioned against swimming at most U.S. East Coast beaches due to "life-threatening" surf and rip currents. Erin, currently churning in the Atlantic, remains a powerful Category 2 storm.
