SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

A serial child sex offender pleaded guilty to several sexual assaults and rapes against children across the world, but the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office stated that he may not serve a full sentence.

Richmond Butler, 52, faces a maximum sentence of 90 years to life in prison, but the DA's office said Butler could become eligible for release at an Elder Parole hearing once he serves 25 years. However, factoring in his in-custody credits, he could become eligible after about 20 years.

Butler admitted to three counts of lewd acts upon a child, forcible lewd acts upon a child, and the forcible rape and sodomy of a person under the age of 16. The district attorney's office said Butler admitted to there being multiple victims and that there was "substantial
