The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on August 10 that they had killed Jihad Kamal Salem Najjar, a Hamas operative involved in the abduction of Yarden Bibas during the October 7, 2023, attack. Bibas was held captive for 484 days before being released on February 1, having lost 33 pounds. His wife, Shiri, and their two sons, Ariel and Kfir, were kidnapped separately. Tragically, their captors later killed Shiri and the children, falsely claiming they died in an Israeli airstrike. On February 20, Hamas returned the bodies of Kfir and Ariel, along with what they claimed was Shiri's body, but it was later identified as that of an unidentified woman. Shiri's remains were eventually returned following public outcry.

In a separate operation on August 13, the IDF confirmed the killing of Muhammad Naif Abu Shamala, a commander in Hamas's Nukhba force. Shamala had infiltrated Israel on October 7 and participated in an attack on the IDF’s Ma’aras Post. He was also involved in planning various assaults against Israeli forces during the conflict.

The IDF reported that in the past 24 hours, its soldiers targeted multiple rocket launchers in southern Gaza that were aimed at Israel. Concurrently, operations in northern and central Gaza focused on dismantling terrorist infrastructure, eliminating threats, and targeting additional sites linked to Hamas.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz approved new military plans for the next phase of operations in Gaza, as presented by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir and senior military leaders. This campaign, which is centered on Gaza City, has been named "Operation Gideon’s Chariots II." Zamir stated that the IDF will persist in its efforts until Hamas is defeated, emphasizing that the safety of hostages remains a priority.
