PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Port Arthur voters will face a major decision in November when they decide whether to approve Proposition A, a measure that would allow the city to redirect money collected by the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) into several city projects.

The City Council voted 5-1 last month to place the proposition on the ballot. If passed, the measure would shift EDC funds — revenue already collected through sales taxes — to five categories:

Recreation or community facilities

Affordable housing

Water supply facilities and water conservation programs

New or expanded business enterprises that create or retain primary jobs

Sports venues and related infrastructure

The proposal would only authorize the transfer of funds. No costs or timelines have been set for the projects
