FREEPORT (WREX) — Freeport Officials are responding to growing concerns over rising rent in the city.
It comes after a tense City Council meeting on Monday, where residents spoke out against the raise in prices.
Freeport has confirmed with 13 WREX that this is related to the PPG Homes purchase of Chapman Properties.
Officials also say they believe PPG Homes is an out-of-area management company.
Despite growing anger on social media about the company raising prices, Freeport says that they can not force the company to lower renting prices.
According to Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul, landlords do have the right to change rates.
