Police on Wednesday warned residents, especially older adults, about distraction theft scams occurring in the Beverly Hills area.
“BHPD has noted a pattern of distraction thefts in which thieves offer ‘blessings’ or spiritual protection while placing fake jewelry, gifts, or religious items on an older victim,” read a statement by the Beverly Hills Police Department.

Women in their late 70s walking alone are the usual targets, police said.
According to the department, the thefts involve at least two suspects. One initiates a conversation with the victim, asks for help, and tries to divert their attention.
“The suspects tend to work in pairs, with one female dressed in modest clothing. A male accomplice and getaway
