Authorities discovered the body of 33-year-old Sheylla Cabrera in Angeles National Forest on August 13, just one day after her husband, Jossimar Cabrera, was seen on surveillance footage dragging a large object wrapped in a tarp from their home. The footage, captured by a Ring camera, raised suspicions about the couple's situation.

Search and rescue teams from the Montrose Mountain Search and Rescue reported finding a suspicious object in the forest that matched the material seen in the video. Homicide detectives confirmed that the object contained Mrs. Cabrera's body. Jossimar Cabrera, 36, has been named a person of interest in the investigation.

Sheylla Cabrera was reported missing on August 12. Investigators believe foul play was involved in her disappearance. The couple's three children were also reported missing but were later found safe in Peru and placed in protective custody.

Jossimar Cabrera fled to Peru before the discovery of his wife's body. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is coordinating with local authorities to extradite him back to California, where he is expected to face murder charges.

Neighbors reported that Sheylla Cabrera had confided in them about her husband's abusive behavior. They had raised concerns about her well-being and helped law enforcement locate the surveillance footage. One neighbor, Mario Sanchez, described Jossimar Cabrera as someone who "always seemed mad all the time."

Sheylla Cabrera's parents stated that they spoke with her on August 9, when she mentioned plans to leave her husband with their children. Meanwhile, Jossimar Cabrera's lawyer claimed that the video footage was not of his client and suggested it had been edited.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office is currently determining the cause of death. The sheriff’s department plans to present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for potential murder charges against Jossimar Cabrera.
