TACOMA, Wash. – Cesar Perez, whose arrest by immigration officials led to a large protest in Spokane, is now one step closer to deportation. A judge in Tacoma ordered Perez’s removal from the country, two months after the protest erupted in downtown Spokane.
Perez has until September 19 to appeal the decision. If he does not appeal, the U.S. government will proceed with his deportation.
At the time of Perez’s arrest, former Spokane government leaders Ben Stuckart and Shelly O’Quinn emphasized that Perez had been adhering to legal procedures and attending all required immigration meetings.
Alongside Perez, Joswar Slater Torres, also under the guardianship of Ben Stuckart, was detained. Torres has an individual hearing scheduled for August 22.
