Carrie Hawkins, a Michigan-based mixed media artist known for her eco-conscious creations and storytelling through repurposed materials, is expected to lead a public art demonstration at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at the United Way building, 216 N. Monroe St., Monroe.

The event is free and open to the public, according to a community announcement. Hawkins plans to share examples of her work in progress and discuss her creative process, which often involves recycled fabrics, vintage costume jewelry and other found objects.

“My art dolls and mixed-media works are created with recycled fabrics and textiles, as well as bits and pieces of old costume jewelry and other fun things,” Hawkins said in the announcement.
