As proud graduates of the University of Central Oklahoma — and former staff members of The Vista — we are deeply concerned about the administration’s recent directive to stop printing the student newspaper. The stated justification — “efficiency” and “reducing expenses” — does not hold up under scrutiny.
Printing The Vista for an entire year costs only $12,000. In the context of UCO’s overall budget, that amount is a gnat’s eyelash. We as the main funders of the Dennie Hall Endowment — funded by supporters of UCO — have agreed to cover printing costs for the next year. That was denied. So why eliminate print? If saving $12,000 is not the real reason, then we have a much bigger problem.
