VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — As power outages begin to impact Hampton Roads, Dominion Energy's storm patrollers are hard at work. They're the ones who scout broken equipment, organize response, and keep people safe around dangerous power lines.
More than 600 customers are without power in Virginia Beach on Thursday morning as Hurricane Erin’s strong winds and coastal flooding continue to impact the region, according to Dominion Energy’s outage map .
"We'll go out ahead of the line crews and perform any damage assessments as customers call the projects in," said Dominion storm patroller Azaria Hockstedler.
Hockstedler said storm patrollers act as the eyes and ears on the ground, safeguarding the public from dangers like live wires.
