(WJW) - A local photographer shared his excitement on social media after catching a 'dragonhunter' on camera.
No, this isn't a fairytale. But, rather a story of a rarely seen dragonfly spotted locally.
According to a Dragonflies and Damselflies of Ohio Field Guide, the dragonhunter is known for its large body and small head, and, as its name suggests, a predatory behavior — eating large prey, including other dragonflies up to 3" long.
"While not very common, when seen this dragonfly will be noticed and remembered. It is our largest clubtail and probably the heaviest of all Ohio dragonflies," states the Ohio Field Guide.
