President Trump has left the White House to patrol alongside the National Guard and other law enforcement officials amid his efforts to crack down on crime in the nation’s capital.

Earlier in the afternoon, California Democrats passed a ballot measure that will ask Californians to approve new, temporary congressional maps, a key step in Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) response to GOP-led redistricting in Texas.

The Golden State lawmakers’ approval comes as the Texas state Senate takes up its new congressional maps later on Thursday. Trump is pushing for the new lines to give Republicans a boost of five seats in Congress.
