To evoke the clean lines and architectural drama of a family’s renovation, designer Darryl Carter left stylist Hilary Robertson and photographer Frank Frances to their own devices.

This house was a gut renovation. The former owners had very traditional taste, and the home had embellishments that felt a little overstated for this client, who was more of
a minimalist. The client wanted a respite for her two daughters—in fact, she even brought them to a few meetings. There was also a beloved family dog who had the run of the house, which called for forgiving textiles.
