Up until a few days ago, Amtrak's newest route was the Borealis, which just hit a major milestone in its thirteenth month of operation that nobody expected a year ago. However, the company's newest route is now officially the restored Gulf Coast line, named the Mardi Gras—a twice-daily service between New Orleans, Louisiana, and Mobile, Alabama, that made a comeback following an agreement for its debut this summer . It's the first Amtrak service between New Orleans and Mobile in 20 years following Hurricane Katrina, featuring four stops on the Mississippi Coast.
