The annual 'end of summer' holiday, Labor Day, is just around the corner and many Michiganders will have the day off, providing them with a three-day weekend.
But not everyone is that lucky.
Labor Day, the first Monday of September every year (Sept. 1 in 2025), is a state and federal holiday, meaning those workers receive a paid holiday off on the designated holiday, according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. State workers in Michigan also get the day off, officials say .
While some private sector workers get the day off because businesses close, employers are generally not required to give employees paid time off unless otherwise written in a contract, according to ADP .
Frontline workers, those who staff grocery stores and restaurants, provided waste management serv
