Gas prices are not likely to change much in the last weeks of summer as New Jersey and the nation head toward Labor Day, which marks the start of school for many Americans and the end of the summer season.

According to travel club AAA, the average price for a gallon of gas in New Jersey was $3.05 on Thursday, Aug. 21. It was $3.04 a week ago and $3.05 a month ago, AAA figures show.

The price of gas had nearly dropped below $3 a gallon earlier this summer.

Labor Day weekend is early this year — it starts next Friday, Aug. 29 and runs through Sept. 1, and according to AAA, marks one “last hurrah of summer.”
