The second tip is to shop at local farmers markets. "Straight from growers, usually much cheaper," Rossen said. "No markup from the distributor or the grocery store."

Rossen's third suggestion is to store vegetables in airtight containers in the fridge. "That one move can keep produce fresh for much longer. We're talking days or even weeks longer," Rossen said.
