Educators and child-development experts are raising alarms over the rise of AI-powered chatbox toys, warning that the devices could disrupt children’s emotional growth, expose them to privacy risks and replace traditional play with machine-driven interactions.

The debate is intensifying as toy makers test how far parents are willing to go in bringing artificial intelligence into nurseries and playrooms. Jack Clark, co-founder of artificial intelligence firm Anthropic, told Business Insider that many parents, including himself, would consider an AI teddy bear to keep children occupied during chores or busy stretches. “Plenty of parents would buy an AI teddy bear to keep their kids busy,” he said.
