DETROIT -- Veteran reliever Carlos Hernández was designated for assignment by the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday, three weeks after being claimed off waivers from the Detroit Tigers.

Hernández appeared in five games for the Guardians, posting a 3.86 ERA with three strikeouts and three walks over seven innings.

The 28-year-old right-hander spent parts of five seasons with the Kansas City Royals before being claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Phillies in March. He was designated for assignment by Philadelphia on June 11 and claimed by the Tigers a few days later .

In five weeks with Detroit, he allowed 12 earned runs on 13 hits in 10 2/3 innings, striking out 13 and walking six.
