Mark Nonkes, manager of Huron County’s local immigration partnership, presented at Goderich council’s Aug. 11 meeting the results of a recent research study that looked at newcomer experiences in both counties. Consisting of multiple partners, the study, dubbed Newcomer Experiences of Housing in Huron and Perth, involved 40 people in focus groups held in Goderich, Exeter, St. Marys and Listowel. The study, under the guidance of Dr. Rana Telfah, looked at the experiences of newcomers who arrived in Canada in 2018 or after, and who live in communities in Huron and Perth with populations of less than 10,000.
