A dad-of-two fatally stabbed an armed burglar after being attacked with a crowbar in front of his partner and children.

The man, whose identity has not been revealed, was compelled to defend his family when six masked intruders stormed into his Selby property in Yorkshire and assaulted him with a crowbar and their fists.

Compelled to protect himself and his frightened family, he seized a knife and during the tussle, stabbed one of the burglars.

The five uninjured men escaped in a getaway vehicle whilst the householder desperately dialled 999 and attempted to save the sixth burglar's life.
