PHOENIX (AZFamily) — For the first time in 30 years, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has a different vaccine recommendation than the federal government. The differing opinion pertains to infants and toddlers and the COVID-19 vaccine.

The difference has created confusion for parents who want to do right by their children. The AAP is strongly recommending COVID shots for children aged 6 months to 2 years old. The vaccine is recommended for other children whose parents also want it.

The AAP differs from guidance established by the US Health Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Federal guidance does not recommend the shots for healthy children of any age, but also states that kids can receive the shots in consultation with their physician.
