JACKSON, MI – The Jackson City Council needs to appoint a treasurer to its vacant seat and will consider changing the position’s charter.

During its Tuesday, Aug. 19 meeting, the Jackson City Council voted unanimously to authorize City Attorney Matthew Hagerty to prepare a resolution to amend the city charter, changing the treasurer position from an elected seat to one appointed by the city council.

The Jackson City Council already appoints the city manager and attorney positions, Greene said.

“A lot of communities do them either way,” Greene said. “Given the nature of the job, it might be a little wiser to make an appointment. It helps you get a professional, but it’s up to the people.”
