A pedestrian was struck and injured by a vehicle in San Jose on Wednesday night, according to police.

Police are investigating a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the area of South Third Street and East San Carlos Street, police said at 10:15 p.m.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries but was later stabilized, police said.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
