The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) issued a statement Thursday regarding the violent incidents that occurred Wednesday during the match between CA Independiente and Universidad de Chile in the second leg of the Copa Sudamericana round of 16 at the Libertadores de América Stadium in Avellaneda.

"CONMEBOL is in constant contact with security authorities and is closely monitoring the situation of those affected. Furthermore, the institution will act with the utmost firmness, in accordance with the regulations of the Disciplinary Committee," reads part of the statement.
