NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) -- While one of Bristol County's two congressmen has yet to rule out a primary challenge against Democratic U.S. Sen. Ed Markey, the other is firmly behind the incumbent.

Veteran Congressman Bill Keating, who represents New Bedford as well as the Cape and Islands, announced Thursday he is endorsing Markey's bid for another six-year term in 2026. Markey succeeded John Kerry in 2013.

"Ed is dedicated to creating opportunity for the people of Massachusetts, and I’m proud to endorse him for reelection to the Senate," Keating said in a statement released to 12 News by the Markey campaign.

Keating said he had collaborated closely with Markey to secure federal funding to replace the Cape Cod bridges, and credited him for "hard work and building lasting partnerships" t
