ALBANY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- The New York State government is investing a total of $52.6 million into projects to improve the state's broadband access.

Out of that money, $9,928,784 is going to Madison County and internet service provider (ISP) Empire Access to build 120 miles of fiber. This would connect more than 2,600 homes and extend broadband access to rural areas with limited options for high-speed internet.

Also, $2,748,215 is going to Community Broadband Networks, another ISP, to deploy hybrid fiber-fixed wireless networks to public housing in the Greater Syracuse area. The company would charge $10 a month and Gigabit service for $30 a month for at least 10 years.
