A former Lake County Sheriff's deputy has been sentenced to six years of probation after firing his gun during an altercation with his wife in January.

But Lake County District Judge John Mercer initially threatened to reject the terms of the plea deal that secured Todd Russell Adams' guilty pleas to felony intimidation and misdemeanor partner or family member assault (PFMA) in July.

"I don't see someone taking any responsibility for the charges that they pled guilty to, and if you're not willing to take responsibility for it, then the court is not going to agree to a plea agreement that will provide for a deferred imposition of sentence," Mercer told Adams.
